Below is a suggested sequence to help you make some decisions about your future.

Self Assessment Tools

Assessment tools are test that help you identify your interests, skills, personality type and values. Once you have your profile they become a tools to point you to a variety of schools, majors and careers that might be a good match for you.


It is helpful to take one of the classes offered by the Career Center for guidance in using the assessment tools and evaluating the results.

Assessment tests are available in our Career Reference Library and on the internet.

A) Learn more about your Personality Type and Careers

Please begin the assessment by looking at the following link:

Find out how your characteristics compare with others.
Take the Personality Assessment.

If you are enrolled in a career center class, the "Do What You Are" personality assessment is included. If you are not enrolled in a class please come to the Career Center for your user name and password.

You may also benefit from taking the TypeCan assessment test. The Myers & Briggs Foundation and the Center for Applications of Psychological Type are the sponsors.

When you have your vocational personality profile, it's time to think about your skill set.

B) Learn more about your skills, interests, values

The next step is to set up your CHOICES Planner Portfolio.

Come to the Career and Student Employment department for log-on Instructions and your password.

Sections to complete are:

  • Interest Profiler
  • Work Values Sorter

Optional Sections:

  • Basic Skills Survey
  • Workplace Skills Checklist
  • Transferable Skills Checklist

Set up your portfolio before making your career advising appointment with a career counselor. Bring a printed copy with you to your appointment. Your counselor will discuss your results with you.
