PURPOSE: This assignment has been designed to help you learn basic skills for writing a research paper: choosing and narrowing a topic, using the library and online resources, and then presenting and citing material in the paper.

The Writing Assignment: This assignment requires you to both persuade your audience to do something AND teach them how to do what you want them to do. For example, you may want to convince your audience to begin surfing, doing yoga, or becoming a vegetarian. If so, then Part I of your research paper will contain the cogent information about why your readers should listen to you and begin this specific activity. Part II of your paper is the How To section; here you are to provide the necessary information for your readers to begin this activity.
