Professional Experience
Since 1988 Mr. Shaw has been a Farm Advisor with the UCCE in San Diego.
This position entails assessing the needs and presenting an educational and
research program for professionals in the landscape, turfgrass, and Christmas tree industries.
Educational programs focus on soil and water management, pest management, cultural practices,
toxicology and environmental safety, and economics to promote healthy plant materials and commodities.
Current research projects encompass recycled water use, irrigation needs of ornamental plants,
integrated pest management, and weed control. Programs are delivered through publications, meetings,
short courses, field tours, mass media, and field and office consultations with clientele.
Public policy education includes working with governmental agencies and professional groups
and councils related to the industry. These programs provide a critical link between U.C.
campus-based researchers and the horticulture industry in San Diego County.
Mr. Shaw holds a MS in Water Science and a BS in Plant Science from the University of California, Davis.
He is a member of the International Society of Arboriculture, the International Society of Arboriculture - Western Chapter,
and the San Diego Golf Course Superintendents Association.
