Beginning Acting for Teens
Fee: $40 (each session)
This class is structured for young adults to give an introduction to theater and introduce beginning acting skills. The course will encompass the use of theater games and exercises to help in speech, vocabulary, voice projection, pronunciation, and to promote self-esteem and confidence. The use of script reading, cold reading will aid in the process. The class will also promote social interaction and help have a better understanding and appreciation for the Performing Arts,; some theater history will be used to give students a better understanding of how theater has evolved from the past to the present. Basic stage terminology and stage familiarity will also be introduced.

Give the gift of style! Learn to make beautiful handcrafted greeting cards to accompany your gifts. Students will create greeting cards using a variety of paper crafting techniques and cutting guides. Students are to bring their own basic tool kit, including Scissors, paper trimmer, adhesives, pen and pencil. Also students will need to bring printed paper and matching cardstock. Cricut© 1: Intro to Cricut©
Cricut© is the home die-cutting machine that all crafters are falling in love with! During this 2 week session students will learn all the basics of how to use this amazing machine for a variety of craft projects, including how to load paper, select images to cut, identify what speed and pressure to set the machine at and how to use 3-4 special function keys. Create cut outs that can be added to scrapbooks, cards or other art projects, Students are to bring their own basic supply kit, including scissors, adhesives, and all Cricut© supplies. Jewelry Design with Wire Wrapping Techniques
Learn how to make a unique necklace, bracelet, and earrings from wire, gemstones, and chain. Students will learn how to use wire, tools, and chain to create their own one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry in addition to jewelry assembly vocabulary and techniques, how to use tools to create their pieces, color combinations, and how to identify common gemstones. After learning soapmaking safety, formulating soap recipes, and calculating lye quantities, students will enjoy making soap from whole vegetable oils and herbs. A Night at the Theatre-Water by the Spoonful
Join us for Cuyamaca College’s Night at the Theater to see Quiara Hudes’ Water by the Spoonful on Friday, April 18 at The Old Globe Theatre. After serving in Iraq, wounded soldier Elliot Ortiz returns home to reconnect with his family and start a new life. At the same time, four lonely souls with wounds of a different sort reach out across the internet to an online support group in search of healing connections of their own. Soon the real world and the virtual one come together in ways neither could ever have foreseen. The Hartford Courant proclaimed Water by the Spoonful “a very funny, warm and, yes, uplifting, play with characters that are vivid, vital and who stay with you long after the play is over.” Contains strong language.
A pre-performance workshop hosted by an actor from the play will begin at 6:15 pm. The show begins at 8pm. Pick up your tickets at the Continuing Education office in A-104 on the Cuyamaca campus between 4/14-4/17. Seats are limited, so register now!

Open painting is geared towards the intermediate to advanced student working in various media including watercolors, markers, pencils and oils. This class allows students to develop their existing skills and learn new techniques. Depending on the weather conditions, plain air painting is an option with many beautiful landscapes available on the Cuyamaca College campus. Ornate Pine Needle Basketry
Learn how to coil a beautiful basket around an unusual stone center. It’s an easy way to start a basket and you’ll find yourself looking for exciting things to use for centers in your basket such as brooches, pendants, and more. Pine needles and Irish waxed lined thread provided, but the coiling technique can later be used to weave almost any plant in your yard including lavender, jacaranda, dusty miller, and rosemary. Introduction to Printmaking
Printmaking describes several different techniques of creating an image on a plate, and printing it on paper, and occasionally other materials, as unique original multiple art pieces. This class will introduce the students to several different techniques, both ancient and modern. Students at all levels of knowledge and experience can create artwork according to their own interests and creative inclinations by experimenting with techniques such as Linoleum cuts, Woodcuts, Silk Screen , Dry point, and Collagraphs. Novice students can explore and experiment as they find their preferred medium of expression, while experienced students can work and refine their skills independently at their own pace, all under the guidance of an experienced instructor, a recognized San Diego printmaker and artist. NEW! Script Reading and Audition Techniques
This class is applicable for beginning actors who would like to learn how to break down a script and prepare for an audition, as well as non-actors who would like to enhance their public speaking capabilities through speech and vocabulary enhancement. All participants will develop a strong sense of confidence in front of crowds, whether they are speaking or performing drama, and will experience self-expression through the creative and performing arts. Classes will lead up to a performance or demonstration at the end of the workshop.
