There is an ongoing shift in education towards more active and student-centered approaches. Case studies engage students to solve a problem, where they have to actively search for information, integrate the knowledge, and apply it. This resembles much closer the issues they can encounter in real life. Moreover, when case studies are solved as group projects, students also acquire skills of team-building, communication, and collaboration. This workshop will present some examples from biological sciences of how to use case studies for different educational goals, list resources for case studies, and offer some suggestions about how this can be enhanced using online resources.
