What We Do to Get Our Students Ready for Your Reading Assignments

Some students fear reading as if it were a fatal disease. This activity will explain what is going on with these students. The challenge is to show them them that reading is opening a door, not dropping a guillotine! The two presenters will share the approaches of the two reading programs here at Cuyamaca College, one for native speakers and one for English as a Second Language. The two programs follow the same principles and much the same format. Showing you how we do it in the dedicated reading classrooms may give you some ideas of what you can do in your own content classroom.
