SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS

  Identify Scholarships:

   Know your assets: Major, Gender, GPA, Ethnicity, Community/College Activities, and Affiliations, Return to College

   Student, Age, or Employer Opportunities

  Search Tools:

   Use Internet, Library, Bookstores, and Other resources to find scholarships

  Four Steps in the Scholarship Process:

1.  Find a Scholarship

          Print a blank copy of the scholarship application

          Read and follow all scholarship instructions/highlight important points on the rough application

          Fill out a rough draft of the application completely

          Complete final application online, then print it out and make an extra copy to keep

          Sign and date the final application

 2.  Complete Personal Statement

         Read and follow all Personal Statement instructions

         Answer each question completely/if needed use examples to make your point to answer questions

         Make sure personal statement conforms to sponsor’s requirements

         Sign and date the personal statement

         Save a copy of your final draft on your computer, disk, or memory stick

3.  Requesting Reference Letters

        Read the application instructions, the types of reference letters are determined by the sponsor

        Provide some general background information to assist those writing a reference letter such as:

        Give references a “Thank You” card for their reference letter

        Use only those reference letters that clearly speak well of you

        Reference letters may be used for 9– 12 mo.

        Send only the number of Reference Letters requested

4.  Mailing the Complete Package

       Read all instructions, make sure the required parts of the application are in the package

       Mail Scholarship Package As Soon As Possible

5.  Scholarship Reception

       Sponsors will ONLY notify the RECIPIENTS

       Do not contact sponsors to ask if you have won the scholarship
