Women's 5K & Men's 4 Mile

Emmanuel Corvera and Lee
McAllister team up for two top
10 individual finishes in the 4
mile race to guide the men's
team to a 4th place finish
amongst the 8 teams competing
today at the Palomar Invite.
With 101 points the Coyotes were
just beaten our for 3rd place by
Cerritos, the perennial Southern
California power, who finished
with 93 points.
Crossing the finish line first
for the Coyotes was Corvera in a
time of 21:57 to place him 5th
overall. 17 seconds back in 9th
was McAllister with a time of
22:14. The rest of the scoring 5
came in with a tight group as
only 15 seconds separated the
trio. Aaron Geisel, Ryan Maize
and Austin Kelley, all former
teammates for the El Capitan
Vaqueros ran 23:24, 23:33 and
23:39 respectively.
Finishing out the top 7 was
Connor Macky, also a former
teammate with the Vaqueros at
24:05 and Alfredo Beltran at
24:25.
No to be out done by the men,
the women had a big meet against
some top level competition. Once
again lead by Paige Hughes the
ladies finished 6th out of 10
scoring teams, but more
importantly the Cuyamaca ladies
finished 2 out of 5 of the 7
conference teams competing
today. Palomar was the top PCAC
team finishing in 2nd overall
with 93 points to Cuyamaca's
139. But the Coyotes were well
ahead of rivals Imperial Valley
with 213, San Diego City with
220 and Grossmont who didn't
have a scoring team. The Coyotes
also managed to defeat San Diego
Christian college, a 4 year
school competing as well.
Individually Hughes finished 5th
in the field of 94 with a season
best of 20:25. Betty Covarrubias
ran a great last 2 miles to
finish in 21:35. Ashley FIshman
continues to improve in her
first full season of cross
country ever as she ran 22: 32.
Not to be outdone by El Capitan,
West Hills had a trio of runners
competing well for the Coyotes
as Kailiene Gini, Sarah Snyder
and Kailin Anderson came in
4th-6th for Cuyamaca. Rounding
out the top 7 for Cuyamaca was
Renee Zertuche who prepped at
Mountain Empire.

Southern California next week at
Fairview Park for the Southern
California Preview meet.
